Aamir Khan finally ended all speculation and signed his next film — to be directed by Reema Kagti (of Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd fame). He will also co-produce the film Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment. This is the first film Aamir has signed since he agreed to do wife Kiran’s Dhobi Ghat around two years ago.The wait is finally over. After nearly two years since he signed his last film, 3 Idiots, and 10 months since its release, Aamir Khan has confirmed his next as an actor. Currently untitled, the latest is a Reema Kagti-directed suspense thriller
After the release of 3 Idiots, the actor had said several times that he has been busy reading scripts for many months but is yet to decide which to choose. In the end he chose Reema’s script. B-Town had been buzzing with news that Aamir was expected to sign Karan Johar’s untitled next, or Aditya Chopra’s Dhoom 3 or Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Dreams or the next films of Rajkumar Santoshi and John Matthew Mathan.
Aamir and Farhan had teamed up earlier for Dil Chahta Hai in 2001.
Even before the release of Khan’s production, Peepli Live, there was a strong buzz that the actor, who had been approached by directors like Rajkumar Santoshi and John Mathew Matthan, would play the anti-hero in Dhoom 3. However, it seems he chose the script penned by Kagti and Zoya Akhtar. Also, he’s venturing into the suspense thriller genre for the first time. Confirming the news, Khan says, “I’ve said yes to Reema’s film. I’m really excited to start shooting in February.” Kagti was an assistant to Ashutosh Gowariker during the making of Lagaan, Khan’s maiden production venture.
No less thrilled are Akhtar and Sidhwani, with whom Khan has worked previously, nearly a decade ago, for Dil Chahta Hai. “I’ve been waiting to work with Aamir since Dil Chahta Hai, and I’m glad it’s finally happening,” said Sidhwani via a text message from Berlin, where he and Akhtar are shooting Don 2 with Shah Rukh Kha
