A White House energy adviser has said oil could continue to leak into the Gulf of Mexico until August.

Carol Browner claims the situation will not improve until relief wells are completed and says the Obama administration is "prepared for the worst."

BP's latest attempt to stop the oil leak with the so-called "top kill" method ended in failure.

President Obama has said he was "enraged and heartbroken" by the news.
